The project area for the rock cliff consolidation is located on the western periphery of the town of Marineo. It is bordered to the northwest by Via Corleone, to the southwest, south, and southeast by Via Sotto la Rupe, and to the east by an adjacent rocky massif. The engineering services covered the stabilization works of the rock face overlooking Via Corleone.

The project encompassed comprehensive rock slope safety measures, combining active stabilization of detached rock blocks with passive protective systems designed to intercept, deflect, or arrest falling debris in the active works area.

Key engineering interventions included:
– Detailed rope-access rock face inspections using alpine techniques, with selective clearance of invasive vegetation and scaling of unstable rock blocks (scaling and clearing);
– Surface mesh reinforcement across fractured rock zones utilizing high-tensile wire mesh panels anchored into intact rock with corrosion-protected steel anchor bars;
– Cable strapping and restraint of large, potentially unstable rock spurs using high-strength steel wire ropes anchored to B450C Ø 28 mm steel bars (3.00 m length) in 90 mm drill holes;
– Passive rock bolting and nailing using 4-meter-long B450C Ø 28 mm steel tie-rods grouted into Ø 90 mm boreholes with non-shrink cementitious grout;
– Ancillary civil works (gabion retaining walls, monitoring instrumentation, boundary fencing, road subgrade reinstatement, crash barriers, etc.).
